From the Leadership Council: Nominations for Leadership Council Members are Open

It is that time of year to take nominations for positions on the Leadership Council. The following positions are available: Chair, Co-chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Member At-large. Please, make your nominations in the comment section by naming the person and the position to which you nominate them. If you are nominated, please let us know if you accept the nomination.

We will begin nominations today and complete them on 16 November 2015.

Following are the descriptions from The Constitution and Canons for each position:

A. Council Member Election

Council members shall be elected by a majority vote of the Progressive Christian Alliance membership.

B. Leadership Council Members and Responsibilities

1. Leadership Council Members

a. Regularly attend council meetings and important related meetings via electronic means. Policy matters will be brought to the greater body within 72 hours for a vote that will be completed within five (5) business days from the
posting. Can miss no more than three consecutive meetings prior to being asked to step down by the Chair or Co-chair.

b. Makes serious commitment to participate actively in council work.

c. Volunteers forand willingly accepts assignments and completes them thoroughly and on time.

d. Stays informed about both council and committee matters, prepares themselves well for meetings, and reviews and
comments on minutes and reports.

e. Gets to know other members and builds a collegial working
relationship that contributes to consensus.

f. Is an active participant in the committee’s annualevaluation and planning efforts.

g. Serve a three (3) year term and may not self-succeed into same position. Cannot concurrently serve as chair of another committee, conference or auxiliary organization within the Progressive Christian Alliance.

Leadership Council Position Descriptions: 


C. Leadership Council Chair Job Description

1. Is a member of the Board (henceforth “Leadership
Council” or “Council”)

2. Ensures regular communication of progress with the membership at large

3. Provides leadership to the Leadership Council, who sets policy

4. Chairs meetings of the Council.

5. Encourages Council’s role in strategic planning.

6. Responsible for the oversight of the financial aspects of the Progressive Christian Alliance.

7. Serves ex officio as a member of committees and attends their meetings when invited.

8. Helps guide and mediate Council actions with respect to organizational
priorities and governance concerns.

9. The Leadership Council will set annual goals, the chair will direct
the Leadership Council to assess specific annual goals and report to membership prior to Annual Conference or annually if a Conference is not held for that year.

10. Performs other responsibilities assigned by the Council.

11. Serves a three (3) year term and may not self-succeed into same position.
Cannot concurrently chair another committee within the Progressive Christian Alliance.

12. Can miss no more than three consecutive meetings. At the point of missing three meetings, it is the responsibility of the Chair to step aside or to submit a plan of action to the Leadership Council to maintain their position
or the position will be considered vacant.

D. Co-Chair Job Description

1. Is a member of the Council

2. Performs Chair responsibilities when the Chair cannot be available (see Chair Job Description)

3. Reports to the Council’s Chair

4. Works closely with the Chair and other LC members

5. Responsible for the oversight of the financial aspects of the Progressive Christian Alliance.

6. A three (3) year term and may not self-succeed into same position. Cannot concurrently chair another
committee.

7. Can miss no more than three consecutive meetings. At the point of missing three meetings, it is the responsibility of the Co- Chair to step aside or to submit a plan of action to the Leadership Council to maintain their position or the position will be considered vacant.

E. Council Secretary Job Description

1. Is a member of the Council

2. Maintains records of the council and ensures effective management of organization’s records

3. Manages minutes of council meetings

4. Ensures minutes are distributed to members of the Progressive Christian Alliance and the Leadership Council within five (5) business days of the Leadership Council Meeting or Annual Conference Meeting.

5. Is sufficiently familiar with legal documents (articles, by-laws, IRS letters, etc.) to note applicability during meetings.

6. A three (3) year term and may not self-succeed into same position. Cannot
concurrently chair another committee.

7. Can miss no more than three consecutive meetings. At the
point of missing three meetings, it is the responsibility of the Secretary to step aside or to submit a plan of action to the Leadership Council to maintain their position or the position will be considered vacant. In the absence of the Secretary it is the Chair’s responsibility to find an ad-hoc secretary from among the
members of the Leadership Council.

F. Council Treasurer Job Description

1. Is a member of the Leadership Council

2. Manages finances of the organization

3. Administrates fiscal matters of the organization 4. Provides annual budget to the council for members’ approval.

5. Ensures development and council review of financial policies and procedures

6. Provides monthly financial statements to council members and, upon approval by council members, to PCA membership.

7. A three (3) year term and may not self-succeed into same position. Cannot
concurrently chair another committee.

8. Can miss no more than three consecutive meetings. At the point of missing three meetings, it is the responsibility of the Treasurer to step aside or to submit a plan of action to the Leadership Council to maintain their position or the position will be considered vacant.

G.Council Member-At-Large

1. Is a member of the leadership council.

2. Act as a liaison between the council and the membership of PCA as a whole.

3. Stay in regular connection and communication with the membership of PCA.

4. To fill in for other leadership council roles in the case of vacancies.

5. Acts as representative of the general membership to the leadership council.

6. A three year term and may not self-succeed into same position. Cannot concurrently chair another committee.

7. Can miss no more than three consecutive meetings. At the point of missing three meetings, it is the responsibility of the Council Member-at-Large to step aside or to submit a plan of action to the Leadership Council to maintain their position or the position will be considered vacant.
